Designed by Modelwerks as a custom evolution of the iconic Excelsior-class spaceframe, the Mercury class takes the proven cruiser design and reimagines it as a dedicated long-range exploration vessel. Rather than serving as a traditional fleet cruiser, the Mercury is built for one purpose: going where Starfleet has never gone before. Its streamlined configuration and emphasis on speed, endurance, and exploration equipment make it an ideal vessel for missions deep into unexplored space.
At the heart of the Mercury's mission profile is its enormous dual-level shuttlebay, designed to support an extended expedition far from established Federation facilities. The cavernous bay can accommodate six standard shuttlecraft and three larger scout vessels, allowing the Mercury to deploy multiple independent exploration teams. While the primary vessel establishes a secure operational base, its scout ships can range ahead to investigate newly discovered planets, stellar phenomena, anomalies, and other points of interest before returning to the mothership with their findings.
The Modelwerks Mercury Class Starship is a detailed multi-part model representing our own take on what an Excelsior-derived exploration vessel could have looked like. Built around the classic Excelsior aesthetic but substantially reconfigured for its new mission, the Mercury is a fast, capable exploration platform designed to serve as both starship and mobile base of operations. Whether you're building a deep-space expedition, assembling a fleet of original Starfleet vessels, or simply looking for something outside the familiar canon designs, the Mercury class is ready to take your fleet beyond the frontier.
