Born from the desperate wartime needs of the Dominion War, the Curry class was a compact Federation medium cruiser assembled using components and design elements from existing Starfleet vessels. Entering service in the 2370s, the Curry-class combined an Excelsior-derived primary hull with large warp nacelles and a compact, unconventional configuration. Designed for rapid construction and deployment, these ships became part of Starfleet's wartime "Frankenstein Fleet," helping fill the enormous gaps left by devastating fleet losses.
The Curry's compact proportions and unusual engineering make it one of the most distinctive Starfleet designs of the Dominion War era. The ship measured roughly 383 meters in length, carried a crew of approximately 290, and was capable of reaching speeds approaching Warp 9.75. Standard armament included ten Type-IX phaser emitters and two photon torpedo launchers, giving this relatively compact cruiser considerable combat capability. The USS Curry and its Raging Queen variant saw action during the Dominion War, including service with the battered Second Fleet.
